Description

This training program is aimed at allied health practitioners intending to deliver services in either the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme and the NSW Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Scheme.

As an allied health practitioner, you have an important role to achieve the best possible outcome for a person with an injury. While the treatment you provide for a person with an injury will be the same as for non-compensable patients, when treating a person with an injury, goals should focus on recovery through work and return to meaningful life activities.

If you have any questions or concerns whilst completing this program, please contact the Help Desk Support Team on ahp_pief@pief.com.au or (03) 9940 4893 - option 1.

Objectives

When you commence treatment for a person with an injury under the NSW personal injury schemes, you are agreeing to become part of the person’s support team. As a member of the support team, your role is to communicate with others in the support team.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • describe the role of SIRA and the NSW personal injury schemes
  • identify that the NSW Workers Compensation Scheme provides support for employees with a work related injury and assists with weekly benefits, medical expenses, hospital expenses and a range of other benefits
  • identify that the NSW CTP Scheme protects the third party, being pedestrians, passengers, cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers of other vehicles, by paying for their treatment and care
  • apply the principles for treating people with an injury, adopting a person-centred approach
  • describe the health benefits of good work and that work is generally good for health and wellbeing
  • identify that the Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services is an evidence-based guide designed to support healthcare practitioners delivering services to people with compensable injuries.
