Description
This training program is aimed at allied health practitioners intending to deliver services in the NSW motor accident scheme.
As an allied health practitioner, you have an important role to achieve the best possible outcome for an injured person. While the treatment you provide for an injured person will be the same as for non-compensable patients, when treating an injured person, goals should focus on recovery through work and return to meaningful life activities.
If you have any questions or concerns whilst completing this program, please contact the Help Desk Support Team on ahp_pief@pief.com.au or (03) 9940 4893 - option 1.
Objectives
When you commence treatment for an injured person under the schemes, you are agreeing to become part of the injured person’s support team. As a member of the support team, your role is to communicate with others in the support team.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- describe the role of SIRA and the NSW personal injury schemes
- identify that the workers compensation scheme provides support for employees with a work related injury and assists with weekly benefits, medical expenses, hospital expenses and a range of other benefits
- identify that the motor accident scheme protects the third party, being pedestrians, passengers, cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers of other vehicles, by paying for their treatment and care
- apply the principles for treating injured people, adopting a person-centred approach
- describe the health benefits of good work and that work is generally good for health and wellbeing
- identify that the Clinical Framework For the Delivery of Health Services is an evidence-based guide designed to support healthcare practitioners delivering services to people with compensable injuries
- identify that value-based health care in the workers compensation scheme and motor accident scheme supports recovery and improves return to activity, recovery at/return to work and quality of life outcomes for people injured at work and on the road.
